Eyssautier hires Gilles Legue for London post

French marine-insurance broker Groupe Eyssautier has established a presence in London with the recruitment of Gilles Legue from Lloyd’s broker ARB International.

Legue was with Paris-based Eyssautier until five years ago when he relocated to London to join HSBC Insurance Brokers, subsequently working for Marsh following a corporate takeover.

ARB International is a London-based insurance-broking subsidiary of the Marseilles-based CMA CGM liner shipping group, so Legue is remaining in the French-connected marine-insurance world.

Groupe Eyssautier, a Lloyd’s broker since 2005, regained its independence earlier this year following a management buyout (MBO) from Gras Savoye, a leading French non-marine broker, that is part of Willis’s international insurance broking network.

Legue will run a representative office located in the Lloyd’s of London building for Groupe Eyssautier.

Following the MBO, Group Eyssautier chief executive Paul-Eric Eyssautier set a target of doubling in size over five years with London one of the prime objectives. But Geneva, where the broker has commodity-trading clients, Africa and maybe elsewhere were other possibilities.

“Gilles knows the Lloyd’s market well, so he will be placing business and talking to underwriters,” said Mireille Tirel, a Paris-based director of Eyssautier.

Eyssautier, operating from Paris, Marseille and Athens places hull, protection and indemnity (P&I), war risks and other covers for about 1,500 ships controlled by 250 owners.
